The best running backs are still drawn to Austin by the Texas Longhorns.

When the Texas Longhorns first landed Bijan Robinson, everyone was well aware of what kind of caliber player he could be. However, not many people realized how his success along with the tutelage of Tashard Choice would help solidify Austin as the place to be for running backs.

Last season they landed five-star running back C.J. Baxter and also found a hidden gem in three-star Tre Wisner. The year prior it was Jaydon Blue who they brought in, and now with star running back Jonathon Brooks out, Baxter and Blue have been carrying the load.

Texas’ running back play has been as consistent and talented as it ever has been over the past couple of seasons, and in the 2024 class, they are bringing in a couple more heavy hitters.

Their two-man running back class is headlined by four-star Jerrick Gibson out of IMG Academy, who signed with Texas on Wednesday.

On top of being a highly-ranked running back, it also marks the second consecutive season that the Longhorns have gone into the Sunshine state and snatched the top running back. Gibson chose Texas over programs like Alabama, Georgia, Miami, and Florida.

According to MaxPreps, he rushed for 740 yards this season on 5.8 yards per carry, while racking up eight touchdowns. He also added 122 receiving yards and a score through the air. 247Sports has him ranked as the No. 69 player in the country, No. 2 running back in the country, and as the No. 10 player in the state of Florida.
