Florida State has signed transfer defensive end Marvin Jones Jr.
On Thursday evening, Florida State announced the signing of transfer defensive end Marvin Jones Jr. Jones Jr. opted to transfer from Georgia to FSU earlier this week, following an official visit to Tallahassee last weekend.
“Marvin is a dynamic athlete with collegiate experience,” head coach Mike Norvell stated in a statement. “He brings experience and a tremendous amount of playmaking ability to our program, and he is only scratching the surface of his potential.” I’m excited to witness his ongoing progress in all areas of our program as he establishes his own legacy here at Florida State. I’m quite happy about not only the player, but also the new member of the Nole Family.”
The 6-foot-5, 250-pound defensive end comes from Sunrise, Florida. Prior to attending Georgia, he played at American Heritage.
During his two seasons at Athens, he appeared in 25 games, making one start. During his tenure at Georgia, he had 16 tackles, including 5.5 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks.
He appeared in 12 games for the Bulldogs last season, including a start in the SEC Championship Game. He had 12 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and a quarterback hurry as a true sophomore.
As a true freshman in 2022, he appeared in 13 games for the Bulldogs during their national championship season. He recorded four tackles, one sack, and one tackle for loss.
He was a consensus five-star talent out of American Heritage, listed by 247Sports as the No. 1 edge defender in America, the No. 3 overall prospect from Florida, and the No. 19 overall prospect in the country.
His senior season, he had 46 tackles, 6.0 for loss, and 5.0 sacks while also catching three catches for 63 yards and one score at tight end as American Heritage went to the regional semifinal round of the 5A state playoffs. During his junior season, he was named first-team all-state after guiding the Patriots to the state championship with 55 tackles, 14.0 for loss with 13.0 sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery to lead a defense that kept opponents to 11.2 points per game. His sophomore season, he played offense and defense, recording 15 tackles, 5.0 for loss with 2.0 sacks, and two catches for 21 yards on a 10-2 team that proceeded to the regional final round of the state playoffs.
He also competed in track for American Heritage.
He is the son of Marvin Jones, a 10-year NFL veteran and member of the College Football and Florida State Athletics Halls of Fame, who earned the Butkus Award and the Lombardi Award in 1992 while coming fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting.
