The gifted running back moves up from walk-on to scholarship player and finds a new home.

There are a lot of moving pieces on the FSU roster at the moment. A few players are still unsure if they will be wearing garnet and gold next season, but others are departing and coming in anticipation of Early Signing Day, the launch of the NCAA Transfer Portal, and the 2024 NFL Draft.

Former Florida State running back CJ Campbell began his career as a walk-on on the scout squad and then joined the transfer portal when it reopened on December 4.

In 2023, Campbell participated in 10 games, mostly as a reserve, and made his debut at Florida State’s ACC Championship victory over Louisville. He had seven carries for 117 yards at the end of the season, including a huge 70-yard touchdown run against North Alabama in the home finale.

Due to a leg injury in 2022, Campbell was predicted to miss the entire season. However, he had an incredible comeback and participated in the final six games for FSU, rushing 18 times for 64 yards and two touchdowns.

With running back Trey Benson declaring for the NFL Draft earlier this month, there will be a lot of new faces in the running back room come football season. On December 15, running back Rodney Hill made his official portal debut. As members of Tribe24, four-star running backs Kam Davis and Micahi Danzy signed with the ‘Noles.

Daughtry Richardson, a former offensive tackle for Florida State, revealed his commitment to FAU earlier this month, and Campbell will join him there.
