DL Five-Star LJ McCray is expected to make a decision between UF, Auburn, and Florida State.

McCray has been committed to the Gators since late October, but a few clubs have stayed steadfast in their pursuit of the gifted prospect.

The early signing period has begun, and as great high school athletes put pen to paper for the first time, the Seminoles remain a top choice in the eyes of five-star defensive line prospect LJ McCray.

Despite being committed to Seminoles opponent UF for nearly two months, McCray has made two unofficial visits to FSU since making his pledge public. McCray has visited Auburn and Miami once, but has not visited UF since making his selection.

McCray accepted an offer from FSU in May 2022, and the Seminoles continued to pursue him even after he committed to the Gators. The reciprocal interest is evident, with a total of eight visits to Tallahassee between camps and visits, as well as an in-home visit from the FSU coaching staff.

“It was just kind of the same things we talked about before outside of coming in and recruiting me for football,” McCray previously told NoleGameday. “They’ve been recruiting me for a long time so I kind of know those guys, but the message has definitely been consistent.”

Despite his apparent dedication to the Gators, McCray’s friendship with FSU head coach Mike Norvell and his staff remains an important aspect in his recruiting process.

“Most of the time we talk, it’s not really about football, it’s not really about coming to Florida State,” he said. “It’s just regular conversations, he’s been recruiting me for the past two years so it’s just all about the things we talked about.”

Following his October commitment to Florida over FSU, Georgia, Auburn, and Miami, the schools have continued to pursue McCray in an attempt to flip him on signing day.

According to 247Sports, the 6-foot-6, 260-pound defensive end is the sixth top prospect in the country and is slated to sign his national letter of intent on Wednesday, December 20.
