After using the transfer portal, the son of a Florida State legend commits to Florida State.
TALLAHASSEE, Florida: Marvin Jones Jr. will soon return home.
The Florida State legend’s son, a former Georgia linebacker, revealed on Instagram on Monday that he will be a member of the Seminoles next season.
Jones Jr. helped the Bulldogs win back-to-back national titles while participating in 25 games in each of the previous two seasons. With 5.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery, he has racked up 16 total tackles.
In Georgia’s Southeastern Conference Championship matchup with Alabama, he got the start.
Coach Patrick Surtain of Florida State’s defensive backs, who previously coached the South Florida native at American Heritage School, will rejoin with him.
After high school, Florida State pursued Jones Jr., who was rumored to be considering the Seminoles before deciding on the Bulldogs. He made the decision to use the transfer portal following Georgia’s 29-game winning streak was ended by Alabama in the SEC championship game.
While playing for the Seminoles, his father earned the 1992 Butkus Award and came in fourth in the Heisman Trophy vote. In the 1993 NFL Draft, he was selected by the New York Jets with the fourth overall choice, and he played for the franchise for his entire 11-year career.
Florida State and Georgia will meet in the Dec. 30 Orange Bowl.
