The former Texas recruit is suddenly available for grabs after two electrifying years in College Station.

According to numerous sources, Texas A&M Aggies sophomore wide receiver Evan Stewart made his way into the NCAA transfer portal on Wednesday—a moment that many Longhorns supporters had been waiting for the past two years.

The ancient rivalry between the Aggies and the Longhorns isn’t the only reason for the burnt orange faithful’s keen interest in Stewart; the 6’0, 175-pound player originally committed to Texas in February 2021, marking one of the pinnacles of the early Steve Sarkisian era. However, when Stewart broke up with his partner less than a month later, the anticipation surrounding his potential to become a star on the Forty Acres was finally dashed. Although Stewart visited the Longhorns both officially and informally during the 2021 season, the Frisco Liberty product chose the Aggies and signed with Texas A&M on early signing day. The Longhorns were still in the running for a rare recommitment.

Despite A&M’s quarterback problems over the previous two seasons, Stewart finished the cycle as a unanimous five-star prospect and was rated as the No. 2 wide receiver and the No. 11 player nationwide by the 247Sports Composite rankings. In College Station, Stewart mainly lived up to the promise. Before Stewart’s career in maroon and white even began, the intrigue surrounding him peaked in the summer of 2021. At the time, wide receiver commit to Texas Johntay Cook was caught on camera telling Stewart he would play with Cook at Texas and end up in the transfer portal, all while criticizing Jimbo Fisher’s offense.

Cook’s forecast now has a potential to come true, but with Texas expected to sign a good high school class and add Houston transfer Matthew Golden, it’s unclear yet whether Stewart and Texas share any interest in each other.

But Cook was aware of the choice, for sure.
