Through the NCAA Transfer Portal, the Texas Longhorns have added a significant difference-maker to their secondary.

On New Year’s Day in New Orleans, the Texas Longhorns are en route to the College Football Playoff.

However, they have already earned an early Christmas gift for themselves.

Andrew Mukuba, a former safety for the Clemson Tigers, chose Texas over the Oklahoma Sooners, Oregon Ducks, USC Trojans, and Ole Miss Rebels when he made his college decision on Monday through the NCAA Transfer Portal.

After seeing the Longhorns this past weekend, he made his decision on X public, which helped Texas complete the transaction.

Austin native Mukuba, the portal’s top-ranked safety, was a vital member of a Clemson team that finished No. 24 in the country for scoring defense, No. 5 for pass defense, No. 27 for rush defense, and No. 7 for total defense.

Mukuba finished third on that defense in terms of total tackles (42), along with two sacks for loss and six interceptions of passes.

Mukuba has participated in 35 games over the past three seasons, recording 143 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, and 16 PBUs.

The Longhorns’ commitment could not have come at a better time, as Texas has already lost Kitan Crawford, Jerrin Thompson, and Jahdae Barron to graduation or the NFL Draft, in addition to B.J. Allen, Larry Turner Gooden, and Jalen Catalon to the transfer portal.

Barron has been playing the STAR position for the Longhorns over the past few seasons, and Mukuba would be a natural fit for it. This would fill a critical positional need for the Horns going into the SEC.
