Mike Brown was able to speak with the media for the first time as a member of the Irish staff after being appointed as the program’s new wide receivers coach by Notre Dame. Brown offered details about his coaching philosophy and the current Irish team.
The following are some salient points from Brown’s initial press conference. Regarding the reputation he wishes his squad to have: “To me it’s about consistently and constantly getting better,” Brown said. “As you watch your group …. and you watch where they start, whether that’s from the beginning of a year to the end of a year, or from the beginning of their careers to the end of their careers, is there improvement, constant improvement.” “…. Just helping them become the best players and young men they can become.”
Regarding the current wide receiver group: “I’ve only watched a little bit of film and seen them in a few practices, but I try to come in with an open mind and a clean slate as I work with them,” said Brown. “What they learned might not be the same as what I’m teaching. They will need some time to get used to hearing things that are different, even if that does not make them right or wrong.
“I believe there is some talent and a lot of youth in the room, so I’m looking forward to seeing them develop and learn.” They’re all fantastic young men who are incredibly hungry and willing to learn.” Further details on the present room: “The thing I’ve been mostly impressed about is their work ethic, number one, and their eagerness to learn,” Brown said. “You know I’m talking, we’re in meetings, and everyone is locked in, hungry, and ready to learn. They are obviously quite intelligent young men. Working with people like that is thrilling because they support one another.
