Ja’Varrius Johnson, who led Auburn’s wide receivers in receiving yards for two straight seasons, is expected to access the transfer site on Friday, as reported by 247Sports.

Over the last three seasons, the Hewitt-Trussville product has amassed over 1,110 receiving yards across 34 games.

As a leader in the wide receiver room over his four years on campus, he is the most productive Auburn player to ever enter the gateway.

But even though he had the most yards of any Auburn wide receiver the previous two seasons, he was never able to establish himself as Auburn’s go-to wide receiver. The 2023 regular season ends with Johnson having the best Iron Bowl of any Auburn receiver, looking like the team’s top receiver the entire time.

In the future, Auburn may choose to use Caleb Burton, who transferred from Ohio State this summer and is starting his second year at the slot receiver position. Robert Lewis, a highly regarded Georgia State transfer, was also added by Auburn.

Following Jyaire Shorter, Omari Kelly, and Malcolm Johnson Jr. as the fourth receiver from Auburn, Johnson is listed on the transfer portal. After Robby Ashford added his name to the gateway on Friday morning, he is the second well-known Auburn alumni to do so.

There are now only four returning wide receivers for Auburn: Koy Moore, Jay Fair, Camden Brown, and Burton. Just two of Auburn’s seven scholarship wide receivers had double-digit catches this season, and the team will only have seven wide outs on its roster for the Music City Bowl on December 30.

Expected to join five-star prospects Cam Coleman and Perry Thompson along with four-star commits Malcolm Simmons and Bryce Cain, Auburn’s freshman receiving class is predicted to be the best rated in program history.

It is a complete makeover and reset for the wide receiver room, which had severe difficulties in 2024.
