Hugh Freeze, Auburn lands Kansas transfer defensive lineman Gage Keys

One of Auburn football’s areas of need is along the defensive front — especially after losing Marcus Harris to the 2024 NFL Draft.

Fortunately for Hugh Freeze and the Tigers, Auburn earned the commitment of former Kansas defensive lineman Gage Keys, who announced his transfer decision Sunday night in a post on Instagram.

Keys will come to Auburn with two years of eligibility remaining.

After entering the transfer portal on Dec. 14, Keys quickly made his way to Auburn just days later.

“I’d definitely say (Auburn’s) at the top of my list as of right now,” Keys told 247Sports’ Christian Clemente on Dec. 17. ”I just have a great opportunity to come in and make a lot of plays.”

With the Jayhawks in 2023, Keys appeared in all 12 of Kansas’ games, tallied 21 total tackles and four quarterback hurries.

Prior to his time at Kansas, Keys spent three seasons at Minnesota.

Out of high school, Keys was ranked a 3-star prospect out of Hilliard Davidson High School in Hilliard, Ohio. Before committing to Minnesota, Keys earned offers from the likes of Cincinnati, Indiana and Maryland, among others.

With the addition of Keys, barring any changes to Auburn’s current or prospective roster, the Tigers’ 2024 defensive line room is set to include 4-star Malik Blocton, Keldric Faulk, Quientrail Jamison-Travis, Jayson Jones, 4-star TJ Lindsey, 3-star Dimitry Nicolas, Darron Reed Jr., Justin Rogers and Zykeivous Walker.
