Two Florida State walk-on defensive backs have entered the NCAA transfer portal.

The NCAA Transfer Portal window has now been open for nearly two weeks. Over 10 athletes on Florida State’s roster have officially entered the portal window, and a few others have expressed their intention to do so. This is always a volatile time when things can change in an instant.

Two walk-on defenders from the program stated on social media recently that they will be leaving the Seminoles. Dylan Brown, a redshirt senior defensive tackle, and Dwayne Wells Jr., a redshirt senior defensive back, will both play their final seasons of scholastic eligibility outside of Tallahassee.

Brown, who was born in Tampa, announced his choice on social media on Tuesday. He made his lone appearance versus Southern Miss in the home opener, earning one tackle in eight snaps. Brown began his career at FCS Rhode Island, where he produced 37 tackles, three tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and two quarterback hurries in 37 appearances, nine starts.

“This past year has been a fantastic ride. I’ve had the opportunity to participate in a program that I grew up watching as a child. Thank you to Coach Norvell for providing me with this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be a part of such a prominent program. I’ve made memories and lasting friends in such a short amount of time that I’ll cherish for the rest of my life. Having said that, I am now officially in the transfer portal.”

Wells Jr., a native of Tampa, spent the previous two years at Florida State after attending Coffeyville Community College. The majority of his contributions were on the scout team, although he did play three snaps in the win over Southern Miss. On Wednesday evening, he resorted to social media to express his thanks for his time in garnet and gold.

“I’d like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Nole Nation.” The past two years as a Nole at Florida State University have been a tremendous blessing. I want to thank coach Norvell and the coaching/strength team for always keeping me prepared through the physical and mental components that the staff tackles on a daily basis to help me progress as a student-athlete. After careful study and numerous conversations with my family, I have concluded that it will be best for my athletic and academic career to enter the transfer portal as a grad transfer.”

Many players have announced their intention to transfer from Florida State, including quarterback AJ Duffy, running back Rodney Hill, running back CJ Campbell, tight end Markeston Douglas, tight end Preston Daniel, offensive lineman Bless Harris, offensive lineman Thomas Schrader, offensive lineman Daughtry Richardson, offensive lineman Qae’shon Sapp, defensive tackle Malcolm Ray, defensive tackle Ayobami Tifase, linebacker DJ Lundy, and linebacker Dylan Johnson.

Patrick Payton, the star defensive end, earlier stated his intention to do so, but erased the references on social media and never formally appeared in the database.
