FSU will host a Georgia edge transfer. This weekend marks the formal visit of Marvin Jones Jr.
Georgia defensive end transfer Marvin Jones Jr. will have an official visit to Florida State this weekend, according to 247Sports reporter Matt Zenitz and Noles247.com.
Jones, a 6-foot-5, 250-pound defender, joined the NCAA Transfer Portal on Tuesday evening, and the Seminoles were the first school to contact him. His father, Marvin Jones Sr., was a two-time All-American linebacker at Florida State and winner of the 1992 Butkus and Lombardi Awards before playing 11 seasons for the New York Jets.
After two seasons with the Bulldogs, he left Athens, Georgia. During the 2023 season, he recorded 12 tackles, 4.5 TFL, one sack, one forced fumble, and a fumble recovery in 237 snaps while appearing in 12 games.
Jones appeared in 13 games as a reserve LB and on kick coverage units as a true freshman in 2022. In the win over South Carolina, he had one solo tackle and one QB hurry. In a win over Georgia Tech, he also recorded a fourth-quarter QB sack.
Jones was a prep talent out of American Heritage High School in South Florida who was aggressively chased by FSU. The Seminoles, on the other hand, lost out to UGA for Jones, who chose to sign with the ‘Dawgs and join their 2022 recruiting class.
Jones also has a link to the ‘Noles in that his former high school head coach, Patrick Surtain Sr., is now FSU’s defensive backs coach.
Jones receives a ’93’ rating from 247Sports and is ranked as the No. 15 overall player and No. 3 edge defender in the NCAA Transfer Portal Rankings.
