According to USA Today, Auburn Basketball used video cameras to spy on opposing practices.

Auburn basketball has been accused of cheating for the second time.

Dan Wolken of USA Today wrote a story explaining his findings into alleged Auburn basketball cheating.

“An SEC spokesperson confirmed to USA TODAY Sports that the conversation occurred in 2018 after the SEC office was made aware of general concerns about video cameras in basketball arenas related to visiting team practices and informally received information involving an individual institution,” Wolken writes. Uncorroborated information is often provided with a participating school during the off-season period.”

The SEC did not name anyone, but most assumed Auburn was involved in the misconduct. Nobody wanted to get forward and raise a finger at the Tigers because there was no proof.

“The SEC did not name the institution, but according to six people affiliated with different SEC programs, Auburn was the team at the center of the spying allegations,” Wolken said in a statement. “However, with head coach Bruce Pearl in the room, no one wanted to stand up and point the finger directly.” According to individuals with knowledge of the meeting, “during a tense moment, then-South Carolina coach Frank Martin implored his colleagues to stop anonymous sniping and say what they wanted to say.”

Given that the issue was dismissed, there was no proof, and it occurred over six years ago, it seems unusual for USA Today to publish such a piece now.
