Mike Brown Named Wide Receivers Coach

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Notre Dame University Marcus Freeman, Head Football Coach at Dick Corbett, has announced the hire of Mike Brown as wide receivers coach. Brown will begin his coaching duties immediately and will be with the Irish wideouts throughout the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl preparations in 2023.

Brown most recently served as the University of Wisconsin’s associate head coach and wide receivers coach for the 2023 football season. He came to Wisconsin alongside head coach Luke Fickell after serving as wide receivers coach (2019-22) and passing game coordinator (2022) at the University of Cincinnati.

Brown, a two-time All-American at Liberty, spent three seasons in the NFL after signing a free-agent contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Brown was instrumental in the offensive development of the Cincinnati Bearcats on their journey to their first-ever 13-0 record and College Football Playoff appearance in 2021. Alec Pierce, who led the team with 52 catches for 884 yards and eight touchdowns, was an All-AAC Second Team pick. During the 2021 season, the wide receiver group helped Cincinnati set school records for touchdowns (70) and points (516).

Brown helped develop Pierce (Indianapolis Colts), Tre Tucker (Las Vegas Raiders), and Tyler Scott (Chicago Bears) into NFL receivers during his time at Cincinnati. Brown helped Will Pauling, who won third-team All-Big Ten accolades with 66 receptions for 694 yards and four touchdowns in 2023 at Wisconsin. In 2022, Pauling had 12 catches for 122 yards.

Brown began his coaching career at Michigan in 2016 as an offensive analyst and running backs assistant. He moved to Delaware in 2017 to serve for head coach Danny Rocco, who previously coached Brown at Liberty. Brown returned to his alma mater in 2018 to coach running backs, and On3 named him one of the “rising-star assistants you need to know” in 2022. In addition, in 2020, he participated in a Bill Walsh NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship with the Cincinnati Bengals.
