Auburn’s defense Marquise Gilbert is the eighth Tiger to express his intention to use the transfer portal.
Junior safety for Auburn Marquise Gilbert revealed Thursday morning on the social platform X, formerly known as Twitter, that he had entered the transfer portal.
Gilbert is the sixth Auburn player to try their luck in the portal and the first to come from the defensive secondary. Tight end Tyler Fromm, wide receivers Omari Kelley, Malcolm Johnson Jr., and Jyaire Shorter, defensive linemen Stephen Johnson and Enyce Sledge, and jack linebacker Stephen Sings V were the first to leave the Tigers.
Gilbert originally arrived at The Plains in 2022 after being recruited from Hutchinson Community College, where his accomplishments helped him become the junior college ranks’ No. 1 available safety.
Gilbert appeared in four games as a depth piece as a safety in his first season at Auburn.
Gilbert, on the other hand, only appeared in three games last season, against UMass, Samford, and Texas A&M. Gilbert’s only stats this season are two tackles against the Aggies on Sept. 23.
Gilbert’s departure will join that of senior Jaylin Simpson, who accepted his Senior Bowl invite on Wednesday, indicating that he will likely turn pro in 2024.
The Tigers will be without Zicketts, Donovan Kaufman, Caleb Wooden, Terrance Love, Austin Ausberry, Sylvester Smith, and C.J. Johnson, but they will be joined by JUCO transfer Laquan Robinson, 4-star commit Kensley Faustin, and 3-star commit Kaleb Harris.
