The transfer portal is open, and on the first day Auburn offered a ton of talented players that are looking for a new home.
The Tigers will have some holes to fill from last year’s roster, that Coach Hugh Freeze will do via the portal.
Let’s take a look at five transfer players that would be a perfect fit for the Tigers.
Will Sheppard is the player that has many Auburn fans excited, hoping he decides to finish his college football career on the Plains. Sheppard is a really good receiver that has had three straight solid seasons for the Vanderbilt Commodores. If Auburn landed Sheppard, he would come in and be the wide receiver one the minute he walked on campus. This would be a big help in a serious position of need for the Tigers.
Deion Burks led the Purdue Boilermakers in receiving this season, catching 47 passes for 629 yards and seven touchdowns. He, like Sheppard, is a receiver who has proven he can succeed at the Power Five level. Burks is a really good wide receiver who would be a perfect fit on the Plains. Auburn will bring in multiple receivers from the portal, and if it could be Burks and Sheppard, this room would finally be full of talent that has proven success at the highest level of college football.
Derrick Harmon is a massive defensive lineman from Michigan State standing six-foot-five and weighing 320 pounds. The sophomore from Detroit, Michigan, had 40 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and a forced fumble this season for the Spartans. He has an SEC ready frame and plenty of experience, plus Harmon graded out well on PFF. This would be a big get for the Tigers.
Nate Clifton is a defensive end who played his first few years of college ball in Nashville for the Vanderbilt Commodores. Clifton led Vandy with 5.5 sacks this season. He had 30 total tackles and an interception to go with his 5.5 sacks. If Auburn could bring in 5.5 sacks to a front seven that didn’t get a ton of pressure this season, it would be a big boost to this roster. Clifton is an excellent pass rusher that would help Auburn a ton.
Robert Lewis is a receiver who had 70 catches for 877 yards and seven touchdowns for Georgia State this year. The five-foot-eleven junior is a great route runner with speed that will translate to the SEC. Lewis’s Georgia State Panthers took on LSU this season, and Lewis had nine catches for 59 yards. Like Sheppard and Burks, Lewis would be a big addition at a position of need for the Auburn Tigers.
