Tracker for Nebraska Football Transfer Portal
On Monday, December 4, the NCAA transfer site officially opened, and athletes throughout college football began seeking for new homes.
Matt Rhule’s second season in Lincoln is expected to be a calmer transfer portal season for the Huskers. The Huskers are pleased with the culture they’ve created thus far, and they will most certainly attempt to fill a few gaps this offseason.
“I honestly don’t see anything about it as stressful,” Rhule said of the transfer portal. “I am in this position to help young people say they had a better life because they played for me, and that is why I do it.” People may not believe it, but that is exactly why I do what I do. I could be at home, sitting out, and in the job cycle right now and be fine. I love it, I love being around young people, it’s been one of the best years of my life, and if one of our players’ lives would be better because they went somewhere else, ‘Hey Coach, I really want to play and I don’t believe I’m going to play,’ I’m going to help them.”
Here’s a quick glimpse at all of the Nebraska transfer portal activity, which will be updated when people leave and join.

OUT: TIGHT END JAKE APPLEGET
Appleget, a Lincoln Southeast graduate, was a member of Nebraska’s 2022 recruiting class, first joining the program on defense.
Appleget, who began his career on offense at Lincoln Southeast, switched to defense in the spring. As a redshirt freshman, Appleget appeared in six games for the Huskers, mostly on special teams.
At his next stop, he will have three seasons of eligibility remaining.
4th of December, I entered the Portal.
Rhule’s statements have already said a lot about the Husker attitude as the gate opens.
Describe the start of this year’s portal palooza as best you can. One thing you won’t hear Matt Rhule say about it is that it’s stressful.
That was stated by the Husker head coach a few weeks back. He’s actually revealed a lot about Nebraska football’s strategy moving into this portal season.
“I am completely in this position to assist young people in claiming that they had a better life because they played me for it… People may not believe it, but it is exactly why Rhule does it. “I could be at home sitting out and in the job cycle right now and be fine.” It’s fantastic. I enjoy being around teenagers. It’s been one of the most enjoyable years of my life.”
To that, Rhule stated that if one of his players believes his life will be better off elsewhere, the coach wants to assist them.
It’s been very quiet around here on Day 1 of this gateway window, however one scholarship Husker’s name did show. While we wait to see who comes and goes, Rhule has spoken enough about the portal to provide a good understanding of the Nebraska staff’s thought process on the subject.
Some of this will merely be a reminder for readers, but it is useful now to note what Rhule himself has stated in recent weeks regarding Nebraska and the portal.
