FSU football: QB AJ Duffy intends to enter the transfer portal
FSU football learned its fate on Sunday afternoon as the College Football Playoff committee decided to place the undefeated ACC champion Seminoles at the number five spot, which allowed a 12-1 SEC champion Alabama Crimson Tide to be inserted into the number four spot.
Rightfully so, this decision by the committee caused outrage amongst the Florida State Seminoles fanbase. One of the main points for dropping the undefeated Seminoles below the Crimson Tide was because of quarterback play after they lost redshirt senior Jordan Travis to a season-ending injury versus North Alabama.
With that being said, head football coach Mike Norvell and company elected to turn in the direction of redshirt junior Tate Rodemaker as the starting signal caller after the Travis injury. However, things became dicey after he suffered a concussion in the fourth quarter of their regular season finale versus arch-rival Florida Gators.
As a result, true freshman Brock Glenn was named the starter for the ACC Championship Game against Louisville. It was quite the offensive struggle for the Seminoles as he was only able to muster 55 passing yards for the entire game as Florida State took care of business in a defensive slugfest by a score of 16-6.
As Glenn showcased his inexperience and struggles, fans were questioning why the coaching staff did not allow redshirt freshman quarterback AJ Duffy to see what he was made of. The IMG Academy standout was a four-star prospect that the Seminoles were high on coming out of high school.
On Sunday afternoon, ESPN College Football Writer Pete Thamel reported that Duffy intends to enter the transfer portal. This was to be expected as the redshirt freshman has only completed two of seven passes in his Seminole career. I believe that, with the right opportunity, he could become a viable starter. We at ChopChat would like to thank Duffy for choosing to be a Seminole and wish him nothing but the best as he navigates through this next chapter in his life.
