Who is Brock Glenn? Meet Florida State third-string QB who could start ACC championship vs. Louisville

The injury bug has hit Florida State’s quarterback room at the worst possible time.

On the cusp of the program’s first College Football Playoff berth since the format’s inaugural year, the Seminoles lost star QB Jordan Travis to a gruesome leg injury in a late-season win over North Alabama. Travis’ backup, Tate Rodemaker, was handed the keys to the offense, but Rodemaker’s status is now up in the air as well after taking hard hit to the head against Florida.

Through the adversity, Florida State has continued to win. The Seminoles lost Travis when they trailed 13-0 and proceeded to score 58 answered points. Then, they gutted out a win in Gainesville without him. Turning to a third-string quarterback in the ACC championship would be a less than ideal scenario, however.

Here’s what you need to know about Florida State QB Brock Glenn, who could be the next man up for the Seminoles.

Who is Brock Glenn?

Glenn is a true freshman from Covington, Tenn. He committed to Florida State in November 2022, joining Travis and Rodemaker in the quarterback room this season.

Glenn was a higher-rated recruit than Rodemaker out of high school, earning four stars and coming in at No. 21 in 247 Sports’ QB rankings for the class of 2023. Rodemaker was a three-star recruit in 2020, ranking No. 29 among all quarterbacks.

However, Rodemaker has four years of experience in Mike Norvell’s system at Florida State. While he hasn’t seen the field much, it’s no surprise that Norvell turned to a quarterback who has been entrenched in the offense for four years with the season on the line.

Glenn has plenty of natural talent, but starting a true freshman in the ACC championship with a College Football Playoff berth on the line would be a risky scenario — one that Norvell won’t be able to avoid if Rodemaker isn’t able to play.

The 6-2, 213-pound QB threw for 57 touchdowns and 13 interceptions during his time at Lausanne Collegiate School in Memphis, Tenn.

Tate Rodemaker injury update

Rodemaker is recovering from concussion-like symptoms and will be a game-time decision for Saturday’s ACC championship, a Florida State spokesperson told Action Network’s Brett McMurphy.

Norvell told reporters Friday that Rodemaker has practiced in a limited capacity at times during the week, leaving Glenn to handle much of the work. Norvell added that the gameplan will be largely the same with either quarterback.

Rodemaker initially took a brutal hit late in the win over Florida last weekend and was allowed back into the game a handful of plays later, but he reported symptoms the following day.

With Rodemaker’s status coming down to the wire, he certainly seems like he would be cleared well ahead of the College Football Playoff semifinals if Florida State earns a spot in the field of four. The semifinals don’t take place until Jan. 1.

If Florida State can win on Saturday, with or without Rodemaker, it would be a surprise to see the Seminoles miss the playoff, even with questions at the quarterback position. The committee gave Ohio State the benefit of the doubt after the Buckeyes lost both Braxton Miller and J.T. Barrett in 2014, and third-string QB Cardale Jones famously led the team to a national championship.

With Travis definitively out for the season, Florida State is hoping from a similar run with either Rodemaker or Glenn at the helm.
