Mark Davis, the Raiders’ owner, may seek to rehire Former Coach.
At the end of this season, the Las Vegas Raiders will undergo a head coaching search. Even if Antonio Pierce takes the team to the playoffs. In light of this, speculations claim that Mark Davis is interested in bringing Jon Gruden back to Vegas.
It’s important to note these are rumors for now. However, the Raiders owner may actually want Gruden to return as head coach, according to Hondo Carpenter of Sports Illustrated. He explained what he’s heard around the league on The Las Vegas Raiders Insider Podcast.
“I’m going to tell you that there are a lot of people who believe that Mark Davis trusts Jon Gruden more than [Tom] Brady and Jim Gray and would love to bring him back.” I’m hearing from many sources across the league that if Jon were prepared to dismiss his lawsuit, the NFL would give a passive nod to re-hire him… “Everyone keeps bringing up Jon Gruden.”
Carpenter believes that Jon Gruden’s current lawsuit will end badly for the NFL. If that’s the case, the Raiders might benefit by Gruden’s return if he decides to withdraw the lawsuit.
“A lot of people feel Jon Gruden’s lawsuit will force Roger Goodell to resign and embarrass a lot of people… Now that Nevada courts are continuing to back [Gruden’s complaint], it’s approaching potential discovery, and if you know anything about the legal system, Jon will be able to ask any question he wants during discovery. It doesn’t have to be about him at all. He can say, ‘I want to talk to this owner, I want to talk to that owner, I’d like to talk to Roger Goodell, or anyone,’ and Jon Gruden knows where every body in the NFL is buried.”
