Nottingham Forest are reportedly willing to pay £6 million for Fluminense defender Nino.

The Reds have been connected with a move for the 26-year-old, with reports from Brazil last week indicating that a deal was in the works. Details were believed to be kept under wraps since the player was engaged in the Copa Libertadores final over the weekend.

However, according to Brazilian media, Forest has “signalled” to Fluminense how much they are willing to pay to capture the centre-back. According to Globo, the Reds have stated that they would “pay Nino’s termination fee” and “invest” 7 million euros (about £6 million) to recruit him.

According to the source, the Brazilian is “destined” to transfer to City Ground and has turned down greater financial offers to do so in January. He is likely to play out the remainder of his club’s season, which concludes with the Club World Cup in December.

Fluminense is claimed to have already agreed to preserve 20% of Nino’s economic rights in the event of a future sale. They would also earn 60% of any transfer money, with 40% going to the defender’s previous club, Criciuma.

On Friday, before to Fluminense’s 2-1 win against Boca Juniors in the Copa Libertadores, Nino was questioned about Forest’s interest. “I found out this morning,” he is quoted as saying. It’s not something I want to discuss right now because nothing but tomorrow’s final interests me.”

The defender’s contract is set to expire at the end of 2024, and he is claimed to have expressed a “desire” to play in Europe.Besiktas of Turkey and Al-Shabab of Saudi Arabia are rumored to be interested in him, and according to Globo, Almeria has promised to increase his wage.

Head coach Steve Cooper’s squad already has a sizable Brazilian element. Murillo, a defender, and Andrey Santos, a Chelsea loanee, both signed in the summer, while Danilo and Felipe came in January. Gustavo Scarpa joined Forest in the winter transfer window but is presently on loan at Olympiacos.
