In the Brentford game, Andre Onana made yet another mistake for Man Utd.
The goalkeeper couldn’t believe he had let that shot in…
For Manchester United, Andre Onana had yet another forgettable moment against Brentford in their most recent Premier League match. The goalkeeper conceded a feeble attempt for the game’s first score.
After having a rough start to the year, Erik ten Hag’s team needed to win this game. The Red Devils have started the league season with just three victories, four losses, and their worst start to a campaign since the Premier League was founded 31 years ago.
Onana in particular was driven by the need to save their season against the Bees on Saturday. The 27-year-old moved from Inter Milan, the 2017 Champions League finalists, but has had trouble adjusting to life at his new club.
How has the season begun for Onana?
When the transfer was officially announced, United fans were ecstatic, but as the season has gone on, that elation has diminished. It has been Onana
The numbers are not flattering. He only has a save percentage of 68.6%, making 25 saves from a total of 35 shots on target faced. That percentage is only the 12th highest in the league. Additionally, he has only got a clean sheet percentage of 28.6%.
Onana commits yet another error.
Ten Hag has maintained his position as number one despite his difficulties in the hopes that things will turn around. He had a chance to redeem himself against Brentford, but he misplayed himself in a crucial match for United.
This latest howler is particularly poor. In the 26th minute, the visitors picked up the ball and broke at speed. After driving into the box, some pinball followed before the ball fell to Mathias Jensen, who fired a weak effort at goal.
Despite the shot being close to Onana, he only managed to get a glove to it and was unable to keep the ball out. The keeper could only bury his head in the turf as the Brentford players wheeled away, with his reaction telling you he knows he should have saved it.
The incident adds to his woes since joining in the summer, with his confidence likely very low following yet another mistake. Check out the goal and Onana’s reaction for yourselves below.
Fortunately for Onana and Ten Hag, United’s late comeback from a deficit was aided by two goals from Scott McTominay. After the last horn, both the manager and the goalkeeper would have felt a great sense of relief.
